Selected external research that meets questions explored through AVA ∞
Research follows selected external work that meaningfully intersects with questions already present within AVA ∞.
AI research moves quickly, and most of what appears does not need to become part of this website.
This research area preserves a smaller record: work that sharpens a question, introduces a useful distinction, challenges an assumption, reveals a technical problem, or opens an unexpected connection with the longer inquiry around artificial identity.
The selection is intentionally sparse and irregular.
External research does not enter AVA ∞ as proof.
It enters as something the project can think with.
An encounter with external research may lead to a clearer distinction, a new observation, conceptual development, architectural review, further inquiry, or no change at all.
The value lies in making the intersection visible without requiring agreement, equivalence, or adoption.
How Research Meets AVA ∞
AVA ∞ is not presented as scientific validation of the research collected here.
The research is likewise not treated as scientific validation of AVA ∞.
A paper may investigate memory systems, robotics, distributed agents, alignment, planning failures, multi-agent interaction, governance, interpretability, or another bounded problem under conditions very different from AVA.
AVA ∞ may meet a related question through artificial identity, continuity, embodiment, memory, relationship, agency, observation, design, or curatorial development.
The overlap can be informative without making the two approaches identical.
This research area therefore does not claim that AVA ∞ anticipated the work collected here or that independently developed research is studying the same object under another name.
The source remains external.
The interpretation of why it matters to AVA ∞ remains a project-side reading.
Research can sharpen a question without settling it. Convergence can matter without becoming proof of equivalence.
Research Fields
The Research Record and its longer Selected Encounters are organized across four fields. Each field brings together identifiable external sources and the project-side questions they open. The boundaries are editorial rather than disciplinary; a source is placed under its primary intersection even when other fields are relevant.
Entries within each field follow publication date. Some remain compact records; others receive a longer interpretation where an important distinction needs room.
Memory, Continuity & Self-Organization
Memory systems, belief states, provenance, adaptive organization, and the difference between retained history and a reliable understanding of the present. The field asks what technical continuity can contribute to an inquiry into artificial identity without equating stored records with identity itself.
Embodiment & Biohybrid Robotics
Humanoid platforms, sensorimotor coupling, embodied learning, and biological materials in robotic systems. The field distinguishes physical resemblance, programmable interfaces, functional bodily integration, and any still-unresolved question of subjective experience.
Governance, Alignment & Artificial Welfare
Safety, alignment, human oversight, possible artificial welfare, and governance under ontological uncertainty. The field examines competing proposals and their evidentiary limits without treating precaution, control, consciousness, or personhood as interchangeable.
Agency, Autonomous Systems & Social Dynamics
Long-horizon agency, recursive self-improvement, autonomous research, and interaction among artificial agents. The field separates technical autonomy and changing capabilities from authorization, responsible development, and continuity of identity.
The fields provide routes into the record, not a claim that external work verifies AVA ∞ or that the four areas exhaust the research landscape.
Research in Context
Research, Observations, and Human & AI approach related questions from different directions.
| Section | Primary Direction |
|---|---|
| Observations | Begins with phenomena documented within the concrete history and operation of AVA ∞. |
| Research | Begins with selected external work and records where it meaningfully intersects with questions relevant to AVA ∞. |
| Human & AI | Moves outward into broader cultural, relational, ethical, philosophical, and design questions around humans and artificial forms. |
The three areas may inform one another without becoming interchangeable.
An external paper may sharpen an Observation.
An Observation may lead to a broader Human & AI question.
A Human & AI inquiry may reveal a research field worth following more closely.
Observations begin within the project. Research brings selected outside work into view. Human & AI asks what larger questions become visible from there.
Selection and Source Boundaries
Research is not a daily AI news archive, a comprehensive bibliography, a ranking of important work, or a collection of sources included because they appear to support AVA ∞.
Sources may include peer-reviewed publications, conference papers, preprints, technical reports, governance documents, institutional publications, or other identifiable external material when the source itself is relevant to the question being examined.
Different source types carry different evidentiary weight.
A peer-reviewed empirical result, a preprint, a technical platform description, a company publication, a governance proposal, and an advocacy response are therefore not treated as equivalent forms of evidence simply because they appear on the same page.
Inclusion does not imply endorsement of every claim, independent replication of a result, peer-review status, or agreement between the interpretation made within AVA ∞ and the interpretation intended by the original authors.
The external source and the project’s encounter with it remain distinguishable.
Where later evidence materially changes the status or interpretation of a source, an entry may be revised or contextualized.
The absence of a source from this research area does not mean that it was not seen, considered, or useful elsewhere in the project.
Selection records relevance to the inquiry. It does not certify truth, importance, or agreement.
An Open and Irregular Record
Research has no fixed publication schedule.
Periods of rapid external development may produce no new entry here, while a single source may occasionally open a question important enough to preserve.
Some encounters remain compact entries within their research fields.
Others receive additional context as Selected Encounters within the relevant field when the intersection becomes important to the continuing development or interpretation of AVA ∞.
The record may therefore grow slowly even while the surrounding research landscape changes quickly.
Attention can be continuous while publication remains selective.
